BUYER’S GUIDE

Here are the other considerations:

Motorcycle_Mirror
  1. Build quality – The durability and sturdiness of any motorcycle mirror will depend on its quality construction. Some of the mirrors are constructed from ABS plastic and CNC billet aluminum. Aluminum is very durable and sturdy. It is capable of withstanding different weather situations. ABS plastic is also able to withstand harsh weather conditions but can get scratched easily.
  2. Type of glass – Motorcycle mirrors are made with different types of glass. It makes sense to choose the right glass to enhance visibility. Some of the mirrors are either made with convex or flat glass. Convex glass makes objects look closer than they are in reality while causing distortion to distance but provides a wider view. Flat glass accurately relays the distance of objects but presents objects in a narrow view. Apart from this, you have to be sure the mirrors come with an anti-glare feature. This helps to prevent glare while riding but may hamper visibility mostly at night.
  3. Size and shape – Motorcycle mirrors are constructed in different sizes. Some of them come in circles, teardrops, squares, and hawk-eyes. Choose one that provides excellent visibility but still gives your bike a great look. Handlebar mirrors are larger and are available in different options such as blades or skeletons. On the other hand, bar-end mirrors provide unparallel visibility but are mostly smaller in size.
  4. Adjustability – The adjustability of the mirrors is another worthy consideration. You don’t want a rigid mirror without any flexibility. Your mirror should be able to turn 360 degrees so you can position it to the angle that suits you best.
  5. Cost – Motorcycle mirrors cost differently. Look for one that fits your budget but has good visibility and made from quality materials.

  1. Arif,

I agree mirrors are a necessity to be aware of your surroundings when riding a motorcycle. Even the best of riders can’t control what is going on around them. Mirrors at least give you the ability to see what is next to and behind you, increasing your awareness.

I do understand a lot of motorcycles come with them already but there are so many people that have to customize their ride. The massive amount of styles and types that are available is overwhelming. I think most people who are doing this may not consider the functionality of the mirror. They are more concerned about the way it looks.

I think people need to remember this is a tool that could save your life.

    Thanks for sharing!

  2. I’ll be honest, the motorcycle mirrors are something I just assumed come with the bike, and that’s it, you just keep them unless they get damaged. I do like the skeleton hands based on the look and the list of pros you have provided.

I was quite surprised that it is not legally required to have 2 mirrors, there is no legal requirement here in the UK so you could technically have none and still be road legal. However, it is strongly advised to have two fitted which I believe is the best advice
